Born July 26, 1973 - First making an impression on international audiences with her role as the sweet, virginal Hero in Kenneth Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing (1993), pale-skinned, fine-boned British actress Kate Beckinsale has since stepped beyond period pieces to prove that she is anything but a fragile English rose.

The daughter of a BBC casting director and famed television actor Richard Beckinsale (known for roles on Porridge and Rising Damp), Beckinsale was born July 26, 1973. After her father's death from a heart attack in 1979, the actress was raised by her mother. By her own account, Beckinsale's childhood and adolescence were fairly troubled, marked by struggles with anorexia. She decided to follow in her father's acting footsteps while still a teenager and in 1991, had her major television debut in Once Against the Wind, a World War II drama in which she played Judy Davis' daughter. The same year, Beckinsale enrolled at Oxford, to study French and Russian Literature, and pursued her education until committing herself full-time to acting.

In 1993, while still a student at Oxford, Beckinsale was cast in Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing. Her supporting role was a memorable one, winning the actress a limited amount of recognition amongst American audiences, but it was not until 1995, when she starred in John Schlesinger's adaptation of Stella Gibbons' -Cold Comfort Farm, that her wattage began to increase, at least in art houses everywhere. The film, which was initially made for BBC television, proved to be a modest hit, bringing in respectable box office and glowing reviews. Beckinsale followed the film's success with another two years later, starring as an altruistic con artist in the quirky romantic comedy Shooting Fish. The film was an unqualified hit in its native country, becoming the third-highest grossing film in England for 1997. The same year, Beckinsale further increased her visibility with the title role in A&&E's Emma.

She next graced American movie screens in Whit Stillman's The Last Days of Disco (1998). She received good reviews for her portrayal of a cool and catty WASP college graduate (for which she assumed an American accent), although the movie itself met with a deeply mixed reaction. The following year, Beckinsale, in addition to giving birth to a daughter (fathered by longtime boyfriend Michael Sheen), starred in her first big-budget Hollywood feature. Playing opposite Claire Danes in Brokedown Palace, the actress portrayed an American girl who, while on vacation with best friend Danes in Thailand, gets caught with heroin and is sentenced to 33 years in a Thai prison.

That mid-budgeted film, however, was nothing compared to her next major Hollywood production. After essaying roles in a television production of Alice Through the Looking Glass (1999) and the Merchant/Ivory production of Henry James' -The Golden Bowl (2000), Beckinsale was plucked from relative obscurity by director Michael Bay for his lavish World War II epic, Pearl Harbor (2001). Boasting a record-setting, nine-digit price tag and one of the most aggressive marketing campaigns ever waged on the American public, the film featured the actress as Evelyn, a plucky nurse torn between the affections of two soldiers.

Though a brief foray into Laurel Canyon found Beckinsale essaying the low-key role of a Harvard graduate gone astray after a taste of the wild side of life, she once again shifted into high gear for the big-budget vampire versus werewolf battle royal Underworld in 2003. Sporting the sort of gothic vinyl duds that had fanboys crooning, Beckinsale raised arms against a brutal breed of lycanthropes and few could argue that she didn't look good doing it. So good, in fact, that not only a sequel but a prequel followed.

That same year, Beckinsale and Underworld director Len Wiseman wedded. Soon thereafter the starlet was once again doing battle with the undead (opposite X-Man's Hugh Jackman) in the action horror adventure Van Helsing. At the end of 2004 Beckinsale turned in a solid performance as Ava Gardner in Martin Scorsese's multiple Oscar winning Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator. While she would be out of theaters in 2005, Beckinsale returned in two very different projects the following year. On February 13th, 1968, a girl of Chinese, English, and Hawaiian ancestry was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to Herbert and Juanita Hu. Sixteen years later this girl was standing before a live international television audience of more than 50 million people in Miami, Florida. Her mother had warned her before the pageant, "Now don't get too hurt when you don't win because America's not ready for an Asian Miss Teen USA." Mother's aren't always right, America was ready for Kelly Hu.
From the age of two, Kelly had already begun showing signs of her performing aspirations. Her mother recalls the toddler planting herself on her neighbor's front porch singing at the top of her lungs, making up songs about going to the market and other daily events.

At her first official performance, Kelly played an angel at her pre-school's Christmas pageant. Overhearing her teacher express concerns about not having strong singers for the pageant that year, Kelly took it upon herself to make up for the lack of voices by belting out "Silent Night" while her 8-year-old brother, Glenn, melted into his chair in embarrassment.

Acknowledging her daughter's insatiable appetite for the spotlight, Kelly's mother enrolled her in dance school on Saturdays where she learned ballet, tap and acrobatics at the age of five. Her brother enrolled in kung fu at the same time. After class, he would meet up with his rambunctious little sister at home and teach her the day's lessons. Quite the industrious one, Glenn began setting up fights between his fearless sister Kelly and the little boys in the neighborhood -- playing manager and taking bets on his tomboy sister.

Shortly after, Kelly's parents divorced and the two children were sent to their mother's hometown of Kahului, Maui to live with their grandparents. It didn't take long before Kelly found a new way to satisfy her passion for performing: baton twirling and marching in numerous parades.

Two years later, Kelly moved back in with her mother in Honolulu and traded in her ballet slippers for roller skates and competed in everything from figure skating to hockey. Raising two children alone now, Kelly's mother took on many odd jobs to supplement her income as a draftsperson for the City & County of Honolulu. One of her jobs included getting clothes on consignment from a wholesaler and selling them at house parties.

At one of these trips to the wholesaler, Kelly at age 13 managed to convince the seller to give her a job in his new store as a salesperson. Working every weekend and some weeknights, Kelly earned enough money for her school clothes.

When she was in her late teens, Ardohain became interested in a local clothing brand that was publicly requesting non-models to be part of an upcoming ad campaign. (born October 24, 1981 in Singapore), best known as Tila Tequila, is an American glamour model and singer of Vietnamese and French heritage.

Although she was born in Singapore, Tila Nguyen is of Vietnamese heritage. Her parents left Vietnam just before Tila was born, and they stayed in Singapore for a couple of years before moving again, this time to Houston, Texas. Once in the Lone Star State, the Nguyens settled into a Buddhist gated community, where Tila and her older sister and brother grew up in a strict, sheltered environment.

As soon as she entered middle school, Nguyen developed a tomboy attitude and kept getting in fights. Her behavior eventually got her sent to a boarding school for six months before she was transferred to another school. As soon as she reached high school, she used her sister's identification card to enter nightclubs, where she began experimenting with drugs and joined a gang. In an interview with Import Tuner, Nguyen said she had been searching for a sense of identity: "I was really confused then, 'cause at first I thought I was black, then I thought I was Hispanic and joined a cholo gang".

Later she made some friends outside the gang who briefly helped turn her life around, however her past caught up with her, and she fled to Queens, New York at the age of sixteen. When she returned to Texas she had a three-way relationship, but eventually decided she could no longer handle her lifestyle. She then began to focus on her studies and job(s).
